Overdale Island: combining heritage and urbanity

Menkès Shooner Dagenais LeTourneux Architects (MSDL) took over the reins of the YUL condominium project in 2011. Soon to be completed, YUL brings together two 38-storey residential towers (855 units in total), 17 townhouses and the Maison Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine, which was officially inaugurated on September 23.

This achievement will have encompassed many elements of architectural practice: design and construction of high-rise buildings, restoration of a heritage building, urban integration and interior design. Anik Shooner, architect and partner at MSDL, will present the main issues related to a complex and large-scale project, particularly in terms of structure, sustainable development, health and comfort of users, as well as the various innovations implemented to meet them.

Architect, co-founder and president of Menkès Shooner Dagenais LeTourneux Architects, Anik Shooner has over 30 years of professional experience. Convinced that the architectural quality of our environment influences our lives, she invests without compromise in the composition of exceptional architecture, executed at the cutting edge of technology, in terms of construction systems, tools and methodology used. Among her many achievements, whether in an institutional, university, residential or corporate setting, are several flagship projects in Montreal: the Cité du multimédia phase 8, the Maison du développement durable, Grandir en santé du CHU Sainte-Justine, Maison Manuvie and the Science Complex on the UdeM's MIL Campus. She is currently leading the development of the Pierre-Le Gardeur Hospital, CHUM, phase 2 and the new National Bank head office.

Reinventing Living Environments for a Sustainable Future

Can we really envisage a future that is not sustainable? The current pandemic context, recent social upheavals and climate issues highlight the shortcomings of our ways of doing things. The status quo is simply no longer an option. Despite everyone's good intentions, we must recognize that, as players in the construction industry, we must seize the opportunity for change that presents itself to us now, and reinvent our practices to ensure the future of future generations.

Louis Lemay will outline his vision of the transformations that need to be made in our living environments so that they can meet the challenge of protecting and promoting the health of occupants and the planet more globally. He will share his firm's experience in the implementation of solutions for the protection and promotion of the health of occupants and the planet.
concrete, practical and reproducible within the framework of various projects, most notably that of the Phénix, the Montreal office of the carbon-neutral firm that has obtained the perfect 3-star Fitwel rating and is in the process of obtaining LEED Platinum certification.
